Our baby girl turned 6 months old on Saturday! What’s even more incredible is that today marks 1 year since my surgery. This day one year ago, I was being wheeled into an operating room for them to remove what they thought was ovarian cancer. (You can read the full story here). At 14 weeks pregnant, they removed my right ovary and Fallopian tube, and after a round of biopsies we rejoiced with the news that it was not cancer! There was so much fear going into that surgery, not knowing if it was going to be cancer, not knowing if Emily was going to make it and so much more, but through lots and lots of prayer (both our own and from many others), we held onto the peace of God that somehow, no matter what the outcome, it was going to be okay. It’s hard not to still get emotional about it. Here we are a year later and I get to love on that sweet baby of mine that I wasn’t sure I would ever meet. God is good!

So, we have a 6 month old! Let’s take a look at what she’s been up to:

• Rolling! She makes her way all around the house. Seriously, if you look away for a second, she’s on the other side of the room!
• She knows what she wants. It’s so fun watching her set her eyes on something and make her way to get it.
• Chatty. She has full on high-pitched, squealing conversations with us (and herself).
• Loves sweet potatoes – carrots, not so much.
• Waking up at night – this kid has been sleeping 10 hours through the night since she was TWO MONTHS old, and we don’t know what changed this month, but about 4 times a week she has been getting up in the middle of the night ready to play!
• Sitting up!
• She still loves her Sophie the giraffe (so does Elly).
• She’s a pro at taking her pacifier in and out of her mouth on her own (I will purposefully not give her the pacifier in the car if I don’t want her to fall asleep on the way home, and before I know it I’ll look back and she will have found her pacifier, have it in her mouth and start dosing off – the girl knows what she wants!)
• Bath time is probably our most excitable time of the day – she loves kicking and splashing.
• She is ticklish on her thighs and around her ribs.

Here is Miss Emily Mae coming in at 14 lbs 13 oz and 27 inches long…
