Travel Equipment Must-Haves

It’s no secret Mike and I love to travel! Whether it’s a mini weekend getaway or a cruise to Europe, we love traveling! With that said, we never go away without bring some equipment, and today, as we dream of warmer weather and our summer vacations, we wanted to share what our must-have travel equipment is!

  • Kelly Moore Libby Bag – I love this bag so much because it allows me to store all of our equipment in one large tote and it’s the perfect carry-on bag!
  • Kelly Moore Songbird Bag OR Mike’s ONA Union Street Messenger Bag – depending on who will be doing most of the carrying. Both of these bags are great over the shoulder bags for shooting with lots of extra pockets!
  • Nikon D700 – we don’t like to travel with our D3s bodies because 1. they are too big and bulky for easy packing and 2. we feel safer using our backup camera incase anything would happen to it – say Kayaking in the Chicago River, for example!)
  • 50mm 1.4 – this lens, in general, is the perfect everyday lens so it’s a no-brainer for us to take it with us when we travel
  • 24mm 2.8 – we love accompanying our 50mm with this wide angle lenses to 1. allow for obnoxious selfies and 2. allow us to capture the sometimes more narrow and close up shots (say in the back alleys of Venice, Italy)
  • Backup batteries – so we don’t have to worry about bringing a charger (unless we are going away for over a week we can usually get away without a charger)
  • 2 8GB memory cards (sometimes 4 if we are going away for over a week or if we have a session scheduled during our trip)
  • Laptop – I just upgraded but downsized from a 2010 15″ MacBook pro to a new 13″ MacBook pro with retina display. I wanted a smaller computer that made it easier to travel with and was excited for the new retina display! I got it in December and have been loving it!
  • Working hard drive – I have a “working” hard drive that I keep all my working files on and a backup hard drive that rarely leaves my desktop. When I travel, it’s easy to just take the working hard drive with me and work off it instead of bogging up my laptop.
  • Memory card reader

That’s a wrap, friends! What can’t you leave the house without when you travel?!

One of those vacation selfies we were talking about made possible with our 24mm lens!
