Let me start by saying that I love reading and starting new books, but as I’ve mentioned before…it’s the finishing part that I struggle with. I’ve heard so many great things about the book “The Luminous Portrait” by Elizabeth Messina and couldn’t wait to start reading it on our way to California. I am proud to say that I finished it in a week (I believe that is an Alison Mish record)! I just couldn’t put it down…her writing, photos and advice throughout the book were priceless! When I read this quote (below), it really resonated with me with the ups and downs, highs and lows of starting this business.

“You will inevitably suffer disappointments along your path, but let go of the setbacks and always relish your successes, no matter how small.”

This is definitely a concept we’ve quickly accepted as we ventured into this business. We’ve already had disappointments and regrets…whether it be not getting a wedding we were hoping for or wishing we would’ve done something differently. But, with those set backs, we’ve learned to enjoy the successes of our business (no matter how small). For instance, we will be traveling to Ohio and northern New York next year to photograph weddings, and we are beyond excited for these opportunities! While it may not seem like a big deal, Mike and I continue to thank God for all the ways (big and small) that He has and continues to bless our business.
