Today’s Tip | Finding Your Ideal Photographer

Finding your ideal photographer is a crucial part of planning your awesome wedding.  It all starts with you…knowing who you are and what you are looking for in a photographer. We know that we are not the ideal photographers for every bride and want to give some pointers to help you find your perfect fit.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when looking for your photographer:

  • Personality. This one is more important than you may think! You deserve to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible on your wedding day, and you will be spending a lot of time with your photographer leading up to and on your big day, so you want to make sure your personalities are a match! Maybe you’re searching for a photographer with a more assertive personality who will really take charge of the pictures and is heavy on posing? Maybe you’re looking for someone who is more laid back and low-key? Whatever it is, with all of the money you’re spending on your photographer, in addition to how much they’ll be with you on your big day, you want to find the perfect one for you! If you don’t feel comfortable around your photographer or if your personalities really clash, you’re wedding pictures may reflect that.

  • Style. Just like your personalities need to match, so does your style! If you are going for a rustic, romantic styled wedding, you want to find someone with that style. In this instance, a photographer with a modern, edgy style isn’t going to be the right fit for you. Maybe you prefer more heavily edited images? Some brides are looking for more candid, casual shots to document the day as it unfolds, while others prefer more formal poses. Take the time to look around and check out different photographers (there are more than you can imagine!) to see what styles are out there and to figure out exactly what you want.

  • Budget. This is a tricky one. While we totally understand the necessity of having a budget for your wedding photographer and your wedding as a whole (trust us, we’ve been there), it is important to choose the photographer that you want (regardless of the price). I can’t say enough about how important wedding photography is…possibly the most important vendor you will be choosing for your wedding day (although I may be biased). The pictures from your wedding day are something tangible that you get to hold on to forever. You want to LOVE your wedding pictures, because 40 years from now, you’ll want to look back with no regrets and be thankful that you chose the right photographer for you!

Finding the right photographer is truly in everyone’s best interest. Not only will you feel more confident and at peace heading into your big day and more comfortable during it, but when you and your photographer are on the same page, they can go out and do their very best work, knowing that their style are exactly what you have been looking for. We know from experience, when we are doing what we really love, it makes it so much easier for us to give you our very best work.

With all of that in mind, put the extra time in and find your perfect match! You won’t regret it!
